Bay Products OdorDigest DuO systems are a line of staged compartment systems capable of removing odorous compounds from a variety of sources. The DuO model line is a new approach that offers many advantages over other biological filter systems. They are primarily used for applications were there is medium to high levels of hydrogen sulfide along with other odors that require a high degree of treatment. It consists of an FRP box of a variety of sizes with an integral bioscrubber on the front end that removes most or all of the hydrogen sulfide and humidifies the air and is followed by a biofilter. The first stage promotes autotrophic bacteria and the second stage is design for efficient heterotrophic bacteria without interference from acid formation due to the hydrogen sulfide degradation. The DuO offers the following benefits:
Air is pulled or pushed from the source to the bottom of the system whereby odorous air enters the bioscrubber section and diffuses up through the BPI’s BioScrub-XL foam. Spray nozzles, recirculation pump and make up water controls the optimal hydrogen sulfide removal. Heaters can be added to increase the air temperature if required. Humidified and hydrogen sulfide free air exits the top of the bioscrubber section and is transferred to the bottom of the biofilter compartment plenum. The humidified odorous air then diffuses up through the biofilter media that supports neutral biological activity. The odors are adsorbed in the biomass of the biological activity and consumed. Additional moisture is added through intermittent overhead spray system. A nutrient feed system adds nutrients to the overhead spray system if required. The DuO is available with a variety of medias including compost/wood chips combinations, lava rock and long life porous media (BPI’s BioOdorSorb). To help overcome bed compaction problems common with organic medias such as compost/wood chip mixtures, grating with lava rock are used to help promote uniformed airflow. This promotes longer media life and reduced pressure drop. Once the media becomes compacted or fouled based on high-pressure drop monitored by a differential gauge or performance is reduced, remove the top, and sequentially remove the media or built-up biomass by disinfection. Insert new media in the system and place the system back on-line. Ports are available for media and water system inspection. MEDIA OPTIONSThe unique feature of the DuO is that it can incorporate a variety of media options. Each media has a specific characteristic that makes it optimal for the specific applications. The standard medias offered are:
