ODORDIGEST™ BioBox SYSTEM
UNIFIED STAGED BIOLOGICAL ODOR CONTROL SYSTEM

Bay Products OdorDigest BioBox (ODBB) systems are a line of staged compartment systems capable of removing odorous compounds from a variety of sources. The ODBB model line is a new approach that offers many advantages over other biological filter systems. They are primarily used for medium flow applications and are capable of treating a variety of odorous compounds. It consists of an FRP box of a variety of sizes with an integral humidifier and a variety of different medias placed on a media support system that promotes even air distribution. The integral humidifier results in reduced size. The ODBB offers the following benefits:

SERVICEABILITY

Once the media becomes compacted or fouled based on high-pressure drop monitored by a differential gauge or performance is reduced, remove the top, and sequentially remove the media or built-up biomass by disinfection. Insert new media in the system and place the system back on-line. 

MEDIA OPTIONS

 The unique feature of the ODBB is that it can incorporate a variety of media options. Each media has a specific characteristic that makes it optimal for the specific applications. The standard medias offered are: 

  • Wood Clips/Compost Mixtures – A very popular media that offers a lot of flexibility for treatment of a variety of odorous compounds. The media has special buffers and additives to help with the media longevity and effectiveness.
  • Lava Rock – A low cost media that is usually used for hydrogen sulfide treatment. Lava rock last for many years and does not suffer from compaction like wood chips/compost mixtures.
  • Long Life Media (BPI’s BioOdorSorb) – Bay Products has developed a media that incorporates a highly porous surface with a coating that provides nutrients, buffering agents and adsorptive sites for optimal heterotrophic bacteria growth. Media like is as long as 10 years.

 

PROCESS DESCRIPTION

Air is pulled from the source and pushed to the bottom whereby odorous air enters the humidification compartment of the ODBB and diffuses up through the packing. Spray nozzles deliver water at a rate that increases the humidity to near 100%. Heaters can be added to the humidification compartment to increase the air temperature if required. Humidified air exits the top of the humidifier and enters the biofilter compartment plenum. The humidified odorous air then diffuses down through the biofilter media that supports biological activity. The odors are adsorbed in the biomass of the biological activity and consumed. Additional moisture is added through intermittent overhead spray system. A nutrient feed system adds nutrients to the overhead spray system. The ODBB is available with in a variety of medias including compost/wood chips combinations, lava rock and long life porous media (BPI’s BioOdorSorb). To help overcome bed compaction problems common with organic medias such as compost/wood chip mixtures, grating with lava rock are used to help promote uniformed airflow. This promotes longer media life and reduced pressure drop.
