ODORDIGEST™ BIOSCARBBER SYSTEM
A HIGHLY EFFECTIVE BIOLOGICAL SCRUBBER AND CARBON SYSTEM COMBINED IN ONE VESSEL

Bay Products OdorDigest BioScarbber is a line of biotrickling or biological scrubber systems capable of primarily removing hydrogen sulfide combined with an integrated radial flow carbon system in the same vessel. The BioScarbber model line offers many advantages in that a single system can have a high degree of hydrogen sulfide, reduced sulfur compounds and VOC removal. The BioScarbber system is designed for flows up to 4,000 cfm. They are primarily used for such as pump and lift stations, and headworks where high to medium concentrations of hydrogen sulfide exists. It consists of an FRP (HDPE for smaller diameters) tower of a variety of sizes with stiff foam structure on the outer wall with recirculation water for the bioscrubber portion of the system followed by an internal radial flow carbon system that polished the bioscrubber exhaust before exiting the system. The BioScarbber offers the following benefits:

  • Lowest operational costs
  • Simple operation
  • Unified system with small footprint
  • Highly effective in treating hydrogen sulfide, reduced sulfur componds, and VOC's
  • Smiple and easy to install

SERVICEABILITY

The system is serviced through two sets of manways. One set is for to access the bioscrubber media, demister pads, spray nozzles, and support structures. Media should be checked from time to time for plugging and fouling that causes channeling which results in poor performance. Clear manways can be incorporated into the system to allow visual inspection of the media. The other set of manways is for carbon removal and installation. All other controls, pumps, gauges and valves are located externally for easy servicing.

MEDIA

  • The unique feature of the BioScarbber is that it incorporates a special priority media that has a superior surface area while maintaining rigidity that prevents compaction that leads to shorting circuiting and poor performance. The media structure is reticulated foam placed in sections to form a packed bed section within the scrubber tower. This ensures maximum contact time with the odorous air stream. The media is impregnated with compounds that ensure a minimum of 10 years media life.

PROCESS DESCRIPTION

Air containing odorous compounds enters the bottom of the vessel and travels to the outside ring where the air flows counter currently to the flow of the water droplets from the overhead spray nozzles. A stiff foam media supports biological activity for high degree of hydrogen sulfide removal and reduction in reduced sulfur compounds. Water is recycled from the bottom sump and make up water is added as the pH or the sump level gets too low. The clean treated air then passes through a demister pad to remove entrained water droplets and into an open internal plenum. The air then moves radially through a center-located radial flow carbon vessel and discharged out the top for highly effective complete odor control.
