ODORDIGEST™ PACKED BED SYSTEM
A STANDARD IN BIOLOGICAL ODOR CONTROL |
Bay Products OdorDigest Packed Bed (ODPB) is a common packed bed system capable of removing odorous compounds from a variety of sources. The ODPB model line is the most popular and common of the family of biological filters offered. They are primarily used for lower flow applications such as lift and pump stations and are capable of treating a variety of odorous compounds. It consists of a FRP or HDPE vessel of a variety of sizes with a variety of different medias placed on a media support system of a FRP grating and polypropylene screen. The ODPB offers the following benefits:
- Lowest operational costs
- Simple operation
- Can utilize a wide variety of media and mixtures of media for specific treatment needs
- Highly effective in treating a wide variety of odorous compounds
- Smiple and easy to install
|
SERVICEABILITY
Once the media becomes compacted based on high-pressure drop monitored by a differential gauge, remove the lid and replace the spent media. Insert new media and place the system back on-line.
MEDIA OPTIONS
The unique feature of the ODPB is that it can incorporate a variety of media options. Each media has a specific characteristic that makes it optimal for the specific applications. The standard medias offered are:
- Wood Clips/Compost Mixtures – A very popular media that offers a lot of flexibility for treatment of a variety of odorous compounds. The media has special buffers and additives to help with the media longevity and effectiveness.
- Lava Rock – A low cost media that is usually used for hydrogen sulfide treatment. Lava rock last for many years and does not suffer from compaction like wood chips/compost mixtures.
- Long Life Media (BPI’s BioOdorSorb) – Bay Products has developed a media that incorporates a highly porous surface with a coating that provides nutrients, buffering agents and adsorptive sites for optimal heterotrophic bacteria growth. Media like is as long as 10 years or greater.
|
PROCESS DESCRIPTION
Odorous air enters the ODPB bottom and diffuses up through the media that supports biological activity. The odors are adsorbed in the biomass of the biological activity and consumed. Moisture and/or heat is added, if required, through overhead spray system, an in-line humidifier or in-line heater. The ODPB typically comes with a compost/wood chip mixture but a variety of medias can be used including lava rock and long life porous media (BPI’s BioOdorSorb). To help overcome bed compaction problems common with organic medias such as compost/wood chip mixtures, baffles made of FRP or redwood are incorporated to help improve even air distribution. |
